Give Warmth Coat Drive 2010

Can you imagine not having a coat right now?  As this is written, the lows this week are mid 30’s.  That doesn’t seem so cold when you have a coat, and other winter clothing articles. Did you know that there are people right around Redmond who don’t have a hat, gloves, or a scarf?  Worse, not even a coat!?  This is hard to comprehend, but imagine how cold it must be for the little kid that doesn’t have a coat to wear while waiting for the bus. As many as 2,000 young people in King County, ages 12-24, are without a safe place to sleep each night. Think of those homeless youth, with no heat or blankets or comforter to keep warm. Friends of Youth out of Redmond, Washington over 60 years ago began to imagined these same scenarios and committed themselves to doing something about it. In light of the current economic state, more than ever, they need our help getting warmth to over 700 people this winter.

So what can you do to help?  C. Joy Salon, together with M.Macdonald Photography of Seattle and Caffe Ladro in Bellevue and the nonprofit organization Friends of Youth, are helping those in need with its Give Warmth Coat Drive, which kicks off Thursday December 16th. Gently used coat donations are accepted through Jan. 22nd at C. Joy Salon, as well as at Caffe Ladro in Bellevue.

Friends of Youth is a non-profit agency dedicated to supporting youth and their families in King and Snohomish counties. Friends of Youth provides a broad range of services to improve its clients’ emotional stability and self-sufficiency, including homeless shelters, transitional housing, outreach, mental health counseling and substance abuse prevention and treatment.

Cheryl Schnelle, Volunteer Coordinator at Friends of Youth says:

“We have many homeless youth in our shelters and through outreach that would benefit from your generosity as well as youth and families in our transitional living facilities and foster homes. The numbers are well over 700 so any and all coats would be fabulous!”

For more information, visit www.FriendsofYouth.org or phone (425) 869-6490.

Other types of outerwear are acceptable and appreciated, like sweaters, jackets and sweatshirts. Even blankets, hats or gloves could help someone stay warm this season. In the coming weeks, donated items will be distributed to people in need at no cost. Coat donations are tax deductible!

C. Joy Salon is offering a 5% discount for any service in the salon for anyone who donates an item to the drive!

So as the temperature drops and the weather gets frightful, please share your heart and give warmth this season.  Thank you for donating!

C. Joy Salon is a by appointment only hair salon, coats will need to be dropped off during the following appointment hours.
